In 2011 the government added a policies to the e-Privacy Directive governing the use of Cookies on web sites.

Since then the Information Commissioner’s Office has released guidelines continually regarding the use of Cookies and the latest guidance document can be found here.

Google Analytics

We use google analytics to enable us to work out what pages on our web site are being used and which pages are not. This allows us to improve the content on pages which are not viewed or potentially archive them off. We do not get access to or use any personal information. The cookies generated by google have the following extensions _utma, _utmb, _utmc, _utmz. These cookies collect information in an anonymous form including such things as the number of visitors to the site, the number of times a page was viewed within a month etc.

The life span of these cookies are:

_utma persists for 2 years
_utmb persists for 1 day
_utmc persists for the duration of the visit to the website
_utmz persists for 8 months
